Pen yr Heol Barn used to be the old shearing shed, and is in a superb location on the footpath up to the peaks of the Brecon Beacons.

The barn has been recently restored using traditional materials, Welsh oak, slate and stone.

Accommodation

Downstairs the floor is covered by terracotta tiles over underfloor central heating whilst upstairs is covered by reclaimed pine.

There are two bedrooms upstairs: a beautiful double room with original beams and a view over the rear patio and up towards Pen y Fan, and a very large room which can sleep up to four with views down the valley. Downstairs there is an en-suite bedroom with French windows onto the patio and views over towards the Black Mountains, and another double bedroom with stable door onto the patio.

The sitting and kitchen/dining area is a huge space, open right up to the rafters, with oak dining table, range type cooker, microwave, dishwasher, leather sofas, a wood burning stove and Sky on the television. There is also a separate childrens' area complete with toy box, dvd and video, and a drying room with washing machine and extensive drying space for wet clothes. Fully accessible downstairs.

There are four toilets, two showers and a bath. One shower room and toilet is completely accessible.

Towels, linen and fuel are all provided.

There is plenty of car parking space.

Week long Bookings are usually Friday to Friday. Short breaks can be either Monday to Friday or Friday to Monday.

Area information

Pen yr Heol is secluded, lying deep in the heart of the Brecon Beacons National Park. The village of Llanfrynach (with excellent pub) is one and half miles away. The historic town of Brecon is 4 miles away with its Cathedral, Museums, Theatre, Cinema etc.

Local attractions

Riding stables and adventure farm in close proximity. Llangorse Lake - sailing, bird watching etc - 4 miles. Llangorse Rope Centre. Hay-on-Wye, town of books and really nice individual small shops, cafes, restaurants 10 miles. Dan y Orgof Show Caves 30 miles. Big Pit underground coal mine 25 miles, Elan Valley scenic reservoirs and dams 35 miles. Red Kite Centre 30 miles. West Wales coast and the Gower Peninsula about 60 miles. Cardiff with castle, National Museum, St Fagans Folk Museum, Millenium Stadium etc 40 miles.

Eating out

The White Swan in Llanfrynach is a five minute drive, or beautiful 40 minute walk. The Felin Fach Griffin is ideal for a special evening out and is a 20 minute drive. There are many good pubs and restaurants in and around Brecon.

Payment information

25% deposit secures a booking. Balance due 8 weeks prior to arrival. Prices include all utilities, bed linen, towels, kitchen linen, dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid and logs for the woodburner. Payment by cheque, payable to Pen yr Heol Barn.
