Bala, Caernarfonshire and Merionethshire
This small mountain lake is at the foot of the Arenig Mountains. Surrounded by heather moorland, and with near-vertical slopes around its northern and western sides, its shores are fairly inaccessible except at the southern end which is easily reached along the track shown here. It provides water for the town of Bala and the villages which surround it.
