St Thomas' Church, Monmouth, stands in the souther part of the town, Overmonnow, so called because the River Monnow has to be crosed to reach it. Much of the original structure - built some time between 1170 and 1186 - remains, although it was damaged 50 years later in the Battle of Monmouth, when the Monnow Bridge was also damaged.
