The Elan Valley is a great place for cycling for everyone. There are spectacular views everywhere you look. For road bikes, the lanes which run around the reservoirs are smooth and won't cause punctures! From Caban Coch to Penygarreg, the trackbed of the railway line used to transport materials when building the dams is now a cycle- and footpath which has a fairly consistent - and never too steep - incline. It has a gravelled surface, and in parts can be muddy, so chunky tyres are best. For mountain bikers, there are many wild byways to take you 'away from it all'. Along the shores of Claerwen, past the Teifi Pools, then on to the ruin of Strata Florida Abbey is one of several popular routes.
