Darren Quarry

Extensively quarried for limestone from the end of the 18th Century until the 1950s, the ridge on the northern edge of the eastern end of the Brecon Beacons dominates the skyline above Crickhowell. Tramways linked the quarry with the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal for transport out of the area, and to the nearby iron foundries in the Clydach Gorge.
