From the southern side of Caban Coch dam a footpath runs along the bank of the reservoir a short distance before descending along to run around a small valley where the small Nant-Y-Gro dam (destroyed in the 'dam-busters' experiments during the Second world war), used to retain water supply for the navvies' village and the steam-powered machinery while the larger reservoir was being built.
