Stones mark the grave of Llywelyn's faithful hound, Gelert, in the shade of an oak tree by the River Glaslyn at Beddgelert. Was Gelert buried here? It seems unlikely. In the early 1800s, as Beddgelert's charms started to attract visitors from England, the manager of the Royal Goat Hotel enlisted help to erect the memorial. Over the years the legend and the stones have become Beddgelert's main claim to fame.
