Blaenrhondda is the village at the top of the Rhondda Fawr Valley. It was built to serve the relatively unsuccessful Dunraven Colliery, sunk in 1859, and the huge Fernhill Colliery which occupied the top of the valley. Since its closure in 1978 Blaenrhondda has become a far more peaceful place.
