Cara Cottage

'Cara' is an end-terrace cottage set in a stunning location, close to all the amenities of the charming seaside village of Aberdovey. Cara Cottage has been tastefully modernised but retains its original charm. The views are exceptional, encompassing the village, sandy beach, lifeboat station and open sea as well as the hills across the estuary which appears to change colour depending on the season.

I try to get to Aberdovey to check it out every 6 to 8 weeks but out of this time it is in the very capable hands of my housekeeper Su and her family who live locally. I have spent many happy times in Cara and hope that people renting the property will love it as much as I do. I am very lucky to have such a lovely home in an outstanding position.

I work full-time as a Nurse Specialist in cancer care so am not always immediately available to respond to booking requests. I am happy to accept bookings directly via or phone. Prices shown are per week. Short breaks of minimum 3 nights are available - contact owner for pricing.

The accommodation

The cottage was built at the turn of the last century to house staff of Penhelig Lodge. The external walls are 18" thick, very much needed due to its elevated position. A multifuel stove in the lounge gives the cottage an extra homely feel, especially on chilly evenings and for winter breaks.

The patio area outside the cottage has a sturdy table for 'alfresco' dining and there are relaxing chairs and a large sun parasol. Seasonal patio pots add colour to the garden throughout the year.

The cottage is well equipped for guests with WiFi, digital radio, Bosch 'Tassimo' drink maker, 40" HD TV with Freeview, DVD player with assorted DVDs, stereo radio/CD unit, board games, books, maps and many other 'extras'. You can even learn to speak Welsh!

The open plan lounge has a leather suite with cushions, TV, side tables and multi-fuel stove. Wood for this is not provided but can be purchased locally.

The dining area and kitchen are situated off.

The kitchen is fully equipped with electric hob, electric oven and dishwasher. An iron, ironing board, slow cooker and cooking utensils are provided as are dishwasher tablets, washing up liquid, condiments (salt, pepper, and vinegar), clingfilm, foil etc.

There are three bedrooms, so the cottage sleeps up to 5 people. The main bedroom has a king-size bed, fitted wardrobes and a view to the estuary and hills. Bedroom 2 has twin beds, fitted wardrobe with mirror, and bedroom 3 has single bed with wardrobe. There are bedside tables and lamps to each. There are two hairdryers with attachments. Bed linen and towels are provided but NOT beach towels.

A high chair, travel cot (no linen), plug-in nightlight and a stair gate are also provided for infants but please speak to the owner first about very young children.

CARA is formed from the initials of grandson Christopher, son and daughter Andrew and Rebecca and myself, Annette. I have owned it since 1999 and have thoroughly modernised and improved it during this time and continue to do so.

The location

Aberdovey village is a short walk downhill and boasts several pubs, restaurants and easy access to the beach. There is also a children's playground, sand dunes, putting green, tennis courts and Bowling Green and equipment is available for hire.

Notes

Please note that access to the property is difficult for clients with mobility issues and the garden may not be suitable for very young children. If in doubt, please phone the owner for advice before booking. There is no vehicle access to the property although there is parking.

Lets are from Friday to Friday or short breaks Friday to Monday, Monday to Friday. Prices shown are PER WEEK. Short breaks of 3 or 4 nights by arrangement. Please contact owner for pricing.

The cottage is non-smoking but ashtrays are provided for outdoor use.

Well behaved dogs (Maximum 2), with responsible owners will be considered at small extra charge. The garden may not be safe for an unsupervised dog. Please enquire with owner before booking. Dogs must not be allowed on beds or furniture and a stair gate is fitted to prevent dog access to upstairs.
