This delightful 1800s stone-built riverside cottage is set in a quiet rural setting on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. Mill House is ideal for walking, fishing, golf, horse riding, cycling, bird watching, canal adventures, canoeing or simply relaxing and enjoying the peaceful countryside setting. See salmon leaping in the river in September, and red kites circling overhead.
There are walks right from the door, although Mill House can also serve as an ideal base from which to explore the Brecon Beacons National Park, or venture eastwards to explore the pretty book town of Hay on Wye (15 miles).
The cottage has a new cedar wood hot tub installed on the patio in 2017 for the exclusive use of guests.
Mill House is a detached stone property in a tranquil setting in a small hamlet 5 miles north of Brecon, and features original exposed beams and oil-powered central heating throughout. The entrance porch opens into the living room with a real fire (starter pack of wood provided for log-burning stove), sumptuous comfy sofas and a large widescreen smart TV with fibreoptic wifi, blu ray/dvd player and interadio.
There is a well-fitted kitchen with oven and hob, fridge, freezer, microwave, washer/dryer and dishwasher, and a breakfast bar area with stools overlooking the river. A landline telephone is provided (payment for calls via honesty box). All rooms overlook the river and field opposite.
There is a large dining room with plenty of seating for meals, which leads to the fully-enclosed secure patio and pretty balcony areas which both overlook the river (care with young children please). Great for relaxing with a drink and a good book (or a pair of binoculars).
Upstairs, there are three well-furnished bedrooms: a main double bedroom with river views, a single bedroom with en suite featuring toilet, washbasin and power shower; a third single bedroom with river views; and the main tiled bathroom with fitted vanity units. An extra adult single foldable bed is also available.
There is free parking for one car at the front of the cottage, and additional free off-road parking is available 50 yards away beside a bridge over the stream. Up to two dogs are welcome at no extra charge.
Please note that Mill House is a NO SMOKING cottage.
The cottage is only 5 miles from Brecon which has two supermarkets, a visitors centre, leisure centre. cinema, as well as the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal with towpath walks and barges offering canal trips. Brecon features quaint independent shops, a ruined castle, a beautiful cathedral, and plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs offering good quality locally-sourced food and drink. Brecon has markets twice a week, and also boasts Theatre Brycheiniog, - its Centre for the Arts (01874 611622), built alongside the canal in the heart of Brecon. The town hosts its annual jazz festival from 12 - 14 August 2017 offering a mix of British and international musicians in 25 concerts and family events.
Nearby are two excellent golf courses, Cradoc and Brecon, as well as the Black Mountains outdoor activity centre, the outstandingly beautiful Ffrwdgrech Gardens with its cascading stream and waterfall garden (created in 1830), and the former 19th century horse drawn route from Tal y Bont to Usk and Trefil which is now a picturesque and easy 8 mile walkway popular with horse riders, dog walkers and cyclists.
