Gower Heritage Centre

Rural Life Museum

Set in the heart of the Gower Peninsula just west of Swansea, South Wales, the Gower Heritage Centre was set up in 1990 as a countryside crafts centre. The 12th century water powered corn and saw mill was renovated, other craftspeople moved here and today it is a vibrant crafts and rural life museum that welcomes visitors from all around the world. We are only 15 minutes’ walk from one of the most beautiful bays on Gower, Three Cliffs Bay. The whole peninsula is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has its own very distinctive culture that owes a lot to the mix of Welsh, West Country and Norman ancestry.

So whether you are interested in old water mills, looking for a day out with the family, organising coach tours or wondering about workshops for your class of 10 year olds, we are sure we have something to interest you. We are open throughout the year with a daily timetable of guided tours and demonstrations and an annual programme of special events. Several craftspeople are resident at the Centre and you can either visit their shops or watch them at work as you go round. Pineneedles shop sells wooden gifts (and just about everything else!), Gower Colours is the place to go for hand-made paper and cards and Siren’s Pottery has a range of original designs by the Sue the potter. Davies Glass makes stained glass mirrors, lampshades, jewellery and other beautiful things. Our woodturner, John de filippo, has a display of various items in different turned woods. Mandy at Poppet Puppets has many different types of puppet for sale as well as puppet kits. We also have a range of garden furniture made at the Mill which is made to order.
