The River Teifi at Cardigan seen from Cardigan Bridge. In Elizabethan times Cardigan was Wales' second busiest port, and in the 1800s it was Britain's fourth busiest. The silting up of the river mouth and the coming of the railway spelt its end, and by early in the 20th century its trade was over.
