From the north Hay-on-Wye is approached from Clyro, and the road crosses the Wye Bridge before entering the town. Hay-on-Wye has been a major centre for secondhand books since 1962 and is known as 'the town of books'. It hosts an annual literary festival at the end of may end beginning of June.
