The remains of mid 19th Century lead ore processing mills for the Bryntail lead mine stand close to the Clywedog dam. Power for processing the ore was provided by water from the River Severn about a mile upsteram from the site of the dam. The ore was excavated from shafts several hundred feet above the processing mill, and transported to the mill via a tramway.
