Designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and completed (after his death) in 1861, Briton Ferry Dock is at the mouth of the River Neath. In use until 1959, the floating dock had a lock gate which maintained the water level at low tide. The tidal outer basin, now heavily silted up, led to the dock entrance.
