On the western slopes of Holyhead Mountain are the dry stone walled bases of Iron Age buildings of various sizes, ranging from large circular structures which would probably have been houses, to smaller rectangular structures more likely to have been used as workshops or to shelter livestock. Excavations between the 1860s and 1970s revealed about 50 buildings across a 20 acre area of the hillside.
