Pont Trefechan is a primary entrance to Aberystwyth town centre from the south. The structure dates from 1888, and it carries the road across the River Rheidol. It is best known for being the site of the first public protest by the Welsh Language Society. On 23 February 1963 members of the Society occupied the bridge to draw attention to their cause.
