High up in the woods above Tintern on the English side of the River Wye is the Devil's Pulpit, a limestone pillar which from which the view over Tintern Abbey and the village of Tintern Parva are quite stunning. According to local legend, the devil stood on the pulpit and tried to persuade the monks from the abbey to abandon their labours and join him instead.
