A close ring of yews surround St Michael's Church at Llanfihangel Nant Melan, at the foot of Radnor Forest near New Radnor. The trees pre-date the church itself, and possibly once surrounded a pre-Christian place of worship. In the 12th Century the mediaveal church was given by William de Breos in the to the Knights of Saint John. The current church, built 1846 in Norman style, was modelled on the church at Kilpeck in Herefordshire.
