Vulcan Lodge

The Vulcan Lodge sits in the beautiful Upper Wye Valley and on the edge of the Cambrian Mountains. It is just 3 miles from Rhayader and the Elan Valley network of lakes. The conversion of this lovely old stone building has been sensitively undertaken to preserve and enhance the best features of the old inn while providing all of the luxury fittings and facilities the discerning visitor of today has come to expect. The cottages have been named after previous owners and each has its own private entrance. They can be booked singly or together for larger groups and the largest cottage can accommodate 25 guests for dining.

The accommodation

Each cottage has its own private entrance, integrated kitchen appliances: hob, double oven, fridge, microwave, dishwasher. Two cottages have full size freezers, gas central heating boiler to give easy control, Freesat tv with a 3D viewing option (£10 returnable deposit on each pair of glasses), Blueray player, divan beds with either pocket sprung or memory foam mattresses, plenty of parking space and access to a shared garden with outside seating.

The Middleton (ground floor) - This fabulous cottage is the largest and has three bedrooms and sleeps 6. If required two of the bedrooms can easily accommodate an additional single bed at a charge of £15 per person per night. There is a very large open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen with a dining capacity for 25 guests. This makes it especially good for group bookings as there is ample room for all guests to gather together in the evening. There is easy wheelchair access at both the front and rear entrances of the cottage with no steps to negotiate inside the cottage.

The Faulkner (ground floor) - This modern style cottage has a south westerly aspect so attracts the sun most of the day. There are two bedrooms. One has a 5ft zip link bed and the other a 6ft zip link bed. Each bedroom has its own shower room. There is a dining kitchen and the lounge has French windows leading onto a balcony.

The Woodman (first floor) - This quaint cottage occupies the upper floors of the original three stone cottages. It has two double bedrooms and is the only cottage with a bath as well as a shower. Beamed throughout it has lots of character.

The Searle (ground floor) - The Searle has one double en suite bedroom with ample room for an additional single bed if required. It is very popular with couples as it is very spacious and the lounge has a large inglenook stone fireplace (electric fire) with steps leading up to the kitchen. Several features of the old inn have been retained. See if you can spot them.

The Tudor (ground floor) - The Searle has one spacious bedroom with a double bed. It has been designed with disabled guests in mind so there is level access throughout and a large wet room. In the lounge there is an electrically-driven reclining chair which also tilts.

Notes

There is a purpose built secure cycle storage unit with bike stands, jet wash, lockers and a laundry and drying room. Hybrid bikes and helmets can be hired for just £5 a day.

The cottages are strictly non smoking. Pets are accepted in the ground floor cottages at £20 for a 7 night stay and £10 for a short break. Additional bed spaces are charged at £15 per person per night.
