Swn Y Gwynt
Swn y Gwynt was designed in 1938 by Thomas Simons Attlee, the elder brother of former Labour Prime Minister Clement Attlee, for Lady Olive Willis. Lady Willis was the twin sister of Violet Millar who married Clemment Attlee in 1922 and it is reputed that Lord Attlee stayed at Swn y Gwynt on a number of occasions.
A detached residence set in a third of an acre along a single track private lane, Swn y Gwynt is approximately 600m from Porth Ceiriad beach. In a designated area of natural beauty (ANOB), the foot path which passes the front gate leads onto the Llyn Peninsula coastal path, and the local town of Abersoch is just over 2 miles away.
The house stands in mature gardens with an impressive Macro Carpa, hydrangas and fruit trees. There is patio table seating for six, with parasol and barbecue.
The house has two double bedrooms and one twin, and a luxurious bathroom with bath, shower and tiled walls and floors. There is a cloakroom with second toilet and washbasin on the ground floor. There are sea views from the first floor.
The compact, fully fitted kitchen has a De-Deitrich induction hob, Siemens oven, microwave/oven/grill, dishwasher, washing machine and American style fridge/freezer with built-in ice and cold water dispenser. Seating for six in the dining area with dark pine table and chairs. In the lounge there is a wood burning stove, leather three seater and two seater sofas and armchair, plus television, video and combined CD/DVD player with amplifier and hi fi speakers. There are wood-effect floors throughout the ground floor and carpets to the stairs, landing and bedrooms. Basic free Sky package is available but I understand you can use your own Sky card (please check with Sky).
There is parking for 2/3 cars in the gravelled drive.
Duvets, pillows, bedding and bath mats are provided and towels can be provided at an extra cost. We appreciate that some people like to bring their own bedding so we offer a discount if bedding is not required.
A baby high chair, travel cot and stairgate are available on request.
Eating out
Abersoch and the surroiunding areas have a number of high quality restaurants with varied cuisine. We recommend you book in advance in the more popular places even out of season.
Location
Swn y Gwynt is located off a private single track lane the only traffic being that to four other properties. Approximately two miles from Abersoch and just over 600m from Porth Ceiriad beach the house is away from the bustle of the village and walking distance to the beautiful south facing Porth Ceiriad beach.
The foot path passing the front gate leads onto the Llyn Peninsula coastal path leading to the west to Hells mouth and Aberdaron and to the East to Abersoch village.
For the less adventurous a walk to Mynydd Cilan, an open headland maintained by the National Trust, may treat you to a few chuffs or a dolfin or two in cardigan bay.
For the more active Abersoch is a watersports mecca with waterskiing, wakeboarding, sailing and surfing.
The Llyn Peninsula
There is something very special about the Llyn Peninsular. The landscape and people offer a warm welcome to a land you are sure to return to time and time again. Enjoy the deserted beaches out of season and the tranquility as you look across to Bardsey Island from Uwch Mynydd. Why not try a trip to Bardsey for the day (please check well in advance for boat salings).
For a lesson in natural history, spot the bottle-nosed dolphins and Atlantic grey seals in the coastal waters and stonechats, goldfinches, and sand martins in the dunes. A major route for migratory birds runs right through the Llyn, too so you can expect arrivals of redwing, chaffinches, starlings and skylarks in the autumn. Good reason for stopping and staring, then - even if it is just to give your feet a break
Payment terms
We ask for a 25% deposit with the booking and the balance, plus a £150 retainer, 6 weeks before arrival.
